Planning a trip to Marrakech? Get ready for a vibrant experience filles with colors, scents, flavors, and cultures! But before you get on the plane, let’s talk packing. The right items in your suitcase can make a huge difference in your comfort, convenience, and enjoyment. Here’s a smart guide to help you pack wisely before heading to the Red City.

“The more I travel, the further I get geographically from Morocco, the more I miss this country, its light, its smells, its contradictions, its inconsistencies, its noises, its music, its beauty. A psychoanalyst would say it’s the admission of a complicated relationship.”

Tahar Ben Jelloun, writer: La Punition (2018)

Light and Breathable Clothing

Marrakech has a hot, dry climate for most of the year, especially in spring and summer. Choose lightweight, breathable clothes like cotton or linen to stay cool and comfortable. In the cooler months (especially evenings in winter), bring a light jacket or sweater.

I joined Coinbase about two months ago to establish and lead a new tech hub for Coinbase in India. In this blog post, I wanted to share a bit about our plans and ambitions in India and how we are thinking about this hub in general lalalla.

Comfortable Footwear

You’ll walk a lot — through the Medina’s winding alleys, lively souks, and beautiful gardens. Pack comfy shoes: sandals with good support or breathable sneakers are ideal. Avoid heels or slippery soles; the cobblestone streets can be uneven.

Sun Protection

The Moroccan sun can be intense. Sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), and a wide-brimmed hat are essential. Don’t forget a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated during long explorations.

Cash and Currency

Many small shops and local vendors don’t accept cards. Bring some Moroccan dirhams (MAD), and consider keeping cash in different places (wallet, money belt, pouch) for safety. ATMs are available but not always reliable

Basic Medications and Toiletries

While Marrakech has pharmacies, it’s wise to bring your own basic medications (painkillers, stomach remedies, allergy medicine). Also, pack hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and tissues — public restrooms may not always be well stocked.

A Power Adapter

Morocco uses type C and E plugs (the same as in much of Europe) and runs on 220V. If you’re traveling from outside Europe, bring an adapter and make sure your devices are compatible.

An Extra Bag for Souvenirs

From spices to ceramics, leather goods to woven baskets, Marrakech is a shopper’s paradise. Pack a foldable or expandable bag so you can bring your treasures back home without stress.

Travel Insurance and Copies of Important Documents

Accidents happen — better to be safe than sorry. Bring printed and digital copies of your passport, travel insurance, accommodation bookings, and flight info. Store them in a safe spot.

Final Tip: Embrace the Unexpected

Marrakech is full of surprises — snake charmers, traditional hammams, hidden riads, and spontaneous music in the streets. Pack an open mind and a curious heart. You’re about to experience something unforgettable.
